Quelle 3: Chéry über die Bataille
de Marengo von Lejeune (Bild)
P. Chéry: Suite de l'opinion
d'un artiste sur l'exposition publique des tableaux

One can remark that the least enlightened part of the
public is not mistaken, and ranges itself on the side
of good paintings. This is verified today by the continual
groups that crowd around the beautiful painting of the
Battle of Marengo, of which the captain of engineering
Lejeune is not only the author, but also where he had
the advantage to figure as an actor. He was aide-de-camp
of General in Chief Berthier and even took part in recording
on the battlefield the principle and memorable deeds
of this glorious day, which decided the fate of Italy.
